I tend to make my own cleaners because it’s less expensive and better for the planet. However, I know not everyone is up for mixing their own cleaners. Sometimes you just want to buy a decent eco-cleaner at the store. That said, when I get a chance to review green cleaning products I usually take it. Today, I’ve got one such review for you.

Product: Ready-to-use Orange Plus Surface Cleaner from Earth Friendly Products.

Uses: The normal Orange Plus by this company is a concentrated all purpose cleaner for non-porous surfaces including sealed stone, hardwood floors, painted surfaces, linoleum, vinyl, porcelain, chrome, stainless steel, wood. You simply dilute the concentrate and use it to clean surfaces. I tried the Ready-to-use Orange Plus which is diluted for you and comes in a handy spray bottle.

Cost: Varies because it comes in various sizes. My spray bottle costs $3.69 for 17 oz, which is pretty well priced in my opinion for an eco-cleaner.

Ingredients: Purified water, pressed orange oil, and 100% natural anionic coconut kernel based surfactant.

Eco-perks:

Earth Friendly products are non-toxic and plant-based.

Free of phosphates, chlorine, petroleum chemicals and an amazing amount of other harmful ingredients.

100% biodegradable.

Containers are easily recycled; even the cap! HUGE plus.

Septic and greywater safe.

Never tested on animals.

The company donates to and participates in a number of eco-minded local and global organizations.

What I think:

Besides the obvious eco-perks listed above I LOVE that this company posts their MSDS product sheets online. Not many companies do but it’s great for consumers when a company does. See the Orange Plus MSDS sheet.

I really liked this cleaner. While I do think making your own is best (saves on containers) it was nice to have something ready to go. It cleans SUPER fast, and by fast, I mean you spray it once and wipe it down. There’s no spraying tons of this stuff to clean a mess. The Orange Plus cleaned up coffee stains off my white counter, left NO residue on my wooden dining room table, and even got some gunky stuff out of the sink. I used it all over the house and never saw it leave a stain of any sort on any surface.

A big perk is the scent. It smells like fresh oranges, not tacky fake orange fragrance. This stuff smells real and it’s not overwhelming. If you’re sensitive to harsh smells, I’d still recommend this product. The scent barely lingers but makes everything smell fresh.

Were there any negatives?

I couldn’t find many. If you’re looking for an anti-bacterial, this product isn’t it. I usually use hot water and soap for my anti-bacterial needs though, you don’t really need a cleaner for that. Because of the oils used, you do need to be careful that this product doesn’t get in your eyes, but no big. I didn’t love the bottle design. For some reason, every time I spray the bottle, the lid twists off a little. I may have got a lame bottle, or it could be the design, I have no idea. It’s not a huge deal though, just slightly annoying.

Overall score:

5 out of 5 happy little trees. I loved how fast it was, loved how it smelled, thought the company had plenty of eco perks, and was pretty darn impressed. If you’re looking for one good surface cleaner, I’d highly recommend Orange Plus.

If you’re not on board with buying eco-cleaners learn how to make your own – 25 Safe, Non-toxic, Homemade Cleaning Supplies

Read about another Earth Friendly Product I discussed here before – the eco-friendly Ice Melt.
